Does Joey Just Need a Couple Days Off?

Don't look now, but the incompetence of the rest of the lineup is having an effect on the reigning NL MVP. I have never seen this guy cheating so badly, swinging at pitches out of the strike zone, taking pitches in his wheel house and playing a zero sum guessing game with the pitcher, as he is doing right now.

Aside from putting a legit right handed slugger right behind him in the order, I cannot think of a better way to try and put this ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY superstar back on track than to sit him down and let him study a couple of ballgames at this point. Not an off-day, but a couple days to sit back and watch pitchers work.

The season is in the balance. The lack of production from Votto right now is an emergency situation calling for extreme measures.

Votto is allowed to slump. I don't think we have to blame the rest of the lineup.

I don't see a problem with giving Votto a day off.

A day off, sure? Multiple days off? Preferably not.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

There's a difference between a day off and multiple days off.

You should always play your best players as often as possible in my opinion.

My fantasy team is doing a happy dance tonight over this game, LOL

I'm thinking Joey is all right.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

After circling the bases as much as he has tonight, Votto may be too exhausted to play tomorrow.
