we can do all the mixing and matching with players we have all we want but it's not going to do anything. Not until we make some trades for some ACTUAL TALENT will this team be a good offense.
Heisey's leading off tonight Game 2 vs. Gordon. I like the idea of Hiesey leading off vs. lefties and Lewis against righties. Hiesey's batting .278 against lefties and Lewis is batting .299 against righties.
I thought Lewis had a good game leading off even though the numbers don't show it. He gives you a good at bat and puts the ball in play, and he also hit the ball hard. He should have had 2 hits.
I'm still not sold on Heisey but our leadoff position is getting so bad I'm all for giving him more chances to produce.
There is talent on this team the problem is it is young and will have bouts of horribleness. Add to that the lack of production from 2 positions and you have issues. Yes a trade to correct say LF is out there, but I just don't think Walt has it in him to go get Ryan Ludwick from the Padres.
Stubbs shouldn't be anywhere remotely near the top of the order. Liked where he was today with Lewis in the leadoff hole.
If they let me fill out the card, it would be:
LF - Lewis
DH - Cairo
2B - Phillips
1B - Votto
3B - Rolen
RF - Bruce
CF - Stubbs
C - Hernandez
SS - Janish
Rounding third and heading for home...
But I do like the OP's original suggestion that Cozart comes up. Just don't think it will happen.
Rounding third and heading for home...
I'm pretty sure Votto hitting third is about the only thing carved in stone for this lineup. Which is a good thing.
FIRE DUSTY Never mind. The man is clearly a genius.
My lineup:
Heisey LF
Rolen 3B
Votto 1B
Bruce RF
Phillips 2B
Alonso DH
Mesoraco C
Cozart SS
Stubbs CF--I have Stubbs behind Cozart as a 2nd leadoff
Over the next 6 games with the DH available that's what I do.
Cozart SS
Sappelt CF
Francisco 3B
Mesoraco DH
Frazier 1B
Alonso LF
Valaika 2B
Miller C
Negron RF
I think Dusty just needs to rotate the hot bats in and out. Right now, despite his obvious struggles early, Gomes is seeing the ball, and hitting the ball extremely well. And coming off a 3-HR night, you have to leave Heisey in the lineup. Rolen is starting to heat up and Stubbs tends to perform better lower in the lineup.
I think Bruce needs to get out of the four hole to shake things up in his own head. His bat is too dangerous to remove from the lineup, but right now he's damn near an automatic out. Maybe a move to the #2 slot will revive May Bruce.
