    Who Am I?

    (1) In my last 3 starts, I have thrown 124, 124 and 132 pitches.

    (2) I am 36 years old.

    (3) Those 3 starts represent my 3 highest pitch counts of my career.

    (4) My manager is a total moron.

    (5) My arm is held togrther by string and chewing gum.

    (6) I think I am going to cry.

    (7) What will I tell my son?

Isn't that the same manager who has been managing for over 30 years now? I mean you can disagree with what he does but a moron he is not. If he was a complete moron he wouldn't be in the game all those years.

I'm guessing that the term 'moron' was used mainly because this is a family web site, and the truly accurate term would be innappropriate for this site.

Interesting about the high pitch counts.... I would observe :

    1. That leaving a starter in that long shows zero confidence in their terrible bullpen.
    2. He actually got two wins in these three starts.

I agree, he is definitely not a moron. Unfortunately RedsZone rules prevent most of us from using our preferred term for the guy. Moron is a reasonable substitute.

Edit: I see the man who is busy miraculously resurrecting a brutal franchise in our fantasy league beat me to it.

You never know. It could've been Carpenter insisting that he stay out there. He's been struggling to find W's with the pen that they have, so it certainly wouldn't surprise me.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

You don't think there may have been an ounce of "tongue in cheek" in this thread?

I think RedsZone is a great place for all around baseball discussion, so you can give us a pass or two for the occasional not so mincing of words about a rival team or manager.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Larussa having a 36 year old pitcher break his record for pitches thrown in a game in 3 consecutive appearances is indefensible. Larussa is a total moron. I stand by this statement.

And when Carpenter goes on the DL, everybody on the Cards board will make the same comment.

You do know this is a Reds board don't you?

    Re: Who Am I?

Carpenter had 6 days of rest in two of those three starts. With the shaky bullpen it isn't that illogical to extend Carpenter a bit. We all know that people who get on forums can manage better than a first ballot Hall of Fame manager. Why don't you send in your suggestions to TLR, Puffy. I'm sure he will manage the game based off of your vast experience.

Let's give him 10 days rest and have him throw 200 pitches.

    It doesn't work that way.

And he wasn't "extented a bit". He was ridden harder than he's ever been ridden before. Throwing 115 pitches is "extending him a bit".

    Re: Who Am I?

    Those pitch counts show desperation.

LaRussa is anything but a moron, he is a great manager, but he's burning a starter at the end of June for wins now. That's what managers do (win now), and it's up to the FO to keep him from doing so. The thinness of the Cards roster is beginning to show.

Tony is well known for his amazing baseball innovations:
    1. Taking the A's to the World Series on the shoulders of the steroid fueled 'bash brothers'.... But Tony knew NOTHING, saw NOTHING, heard NOTHING about steroids. Right.
    2. Having the pitcher bat 8th. Brilliant.
    3. Taking the 2006 Cardinals to a World Series victory with a team that won 83 games in the regular season. Awe-inspiring....
    4. Creating the whiny Cardinals of song and story, including slippery balls, uneven pitching mounds, headhunting opposing pitchers, etc.
    5. "Tony Larussa has won a lot of games as a manager. He has also lost a lot of clubhouses. You'd be amazed at how many of his ex-players just can't stand the guy."
