Until the Reds get Reyes, play Cairo at SS

Admittedly Miguel might be older, have a smaller range, and have a weaker arm compared to "real" ML shortstops, but the Reds need some additional offense.

As per another thread: Cairo has been in 64 big league games at SS (although mostly late 1990's to mid 2000's). I bet that he still can make the routine plays at least.

At .288/.356/.407, Cairo's 1 or 2 hits per game, and an extra base knock per 14-15 AB, should help turn the lineup over more frequently and produce some additional runs scored and RBI.

He probably can not play more than 4-5 days a week and probably would need replaced by Janish late in the game with a lead -- but the Reds need to FIRST GET THAT LEAD!!

Or you could, you know, just play Cozart.

Assuming he could cut it at SS(huge assumption)he wouldn't last more then a week before wearing down and likely hurting himself.Four or five games of added offense at SS at the expense of terrible defense and the possibility of loosing a valuable bench guy for a extended time isn't even close to worth the risk imo.

Or put Cairo at 2nd base and put Phillips at shortstop.

Or put Cozart at SS and Cairo at 3b.

That's what these threads always amount to.

If Phillips proved to be a good SS, then 2B might be an easier position to fill with Cairo, Cozart, Frazier (?) or whatever other (hitting) second baseman could be brought up -- or brought in from the outside by trade.

    What second basemen are available?

Wouldn't it be easier to keep the gold glove at second base and play Cozart at the position he's played his entire career?
