Reds to have a 4th All Star named?

At the tail end of Reds Live, Jim Day teased the fact that the Reds have three All Stars and may have a fourth named by the end of the night.

    Any info?

I would guess Cordero. Would make sense with Cueto pitching tonight.

    Rolen?

Cool to see if that's the case but how could that be?

3B in the NL is a poor position.

With Shane Victorino going on the DL, and Ryan Braun likely to be unavailable for the All-Star Game as well, will Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen get the call?

Rolen has no business in that discussion whatsoever.

When there are no deserving candidates, the default position is usually lifetime achievement.

With more attention paid to actually winning the game, I can understand this just for his glove alone. Throw in the lifetime achievement and it makes sense. i would prefer that he stayed home and rested up, but congrats are in order.

With that said... Play better in the 2nd half, Scotty.

    Here’s the official announcement:

“Major League Baseball announced today that third baseman Scott Rolen of the Cincinnati Reds will replace Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves on the National League’s active roster for the 82nd All-Star Game, to be played on Tuesday, July 12th at Chase Field in Phoenix.

“Jones, who made the N.L. All-Star team via the Player Ballot, has been placed on the disabled list. Rolen was the next highest ranked third baseman on the National League Player Ballot.

“This is the seventh All-Star berth of Rolen’s 16-year Major League career, having also represented the National League each year from 2002-2006 and in 2010. Entering play tonight, Rolen was batting .245 with 30 runs scored, five home runs and 35 RBI in 60 games. He has gone 3-for-8 (.375) in the four Midsummer Classics in which he has played. Rolen has batted .282 in his career with 308 home runs and 1,247 RBI and has earned eight Rawlings Gold Gloves.

Scott might be better off with 4 days rest.

I'm more of a career achievement guy -- you know, stars -- but if we're talking 2011 Ryan Roberts deserves to replace Chipper.

Regarding McCutchen, I'm just waiting for Bochy to take Aaron Rowand.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

FTR, McCutchen has actually been named to replace Braun, out with a calf strain.

Good to see McCutcheon named. He deserved a spot anyway, and is one of my favorite non-Reds. We get Pittsburgh's cable station as well as Cincy's, and he's one guy I really like to watch.
