17 years in the big leagues.
He must have been doing something right, at some point.
Juan Castro put up a .268 OBP and OPS'ed .595 over a 17 yr. career.
Well the Reds can now retire his number- whatever it was.
He still hit one of the most surprising home runs I can ever remember. On June 30, 2006, the Reds trailed the Cleveland Indians 7-0 late in the game. Despite having better pinch hitters on the bench, Jerry Narron called Juan Castro's number. I remember ranting about this "awful" move just as Juan Castro hit a three-run jack. Later in the game, Adam Dunn hit a walk-off grand slam creating the best atmosphere I have ever seen at a ballgame until Bruce's walk-off for the playoff clinch last year.
Manos De Oro will be remembered by this Reds' fan.
Juan may be the most criticized player in the history of this site.
That made him endearing to me.
Good luck to Juan C. He never could hit; he didn't have great range; but he had hands of glue.
What happened to the people he was blackmailing for a job? To his credit though, he was more sign-able than all those suspects of the mlb draft and free agency. It's an end of era.

What a great game. Kearns homered in the same inning before Castro, so it was 7-1 at that point.
"J Castro Home Run (Line Drive); Phillips Scores; Valentin Scores"
Who remembers when Juan Castro pinch hit for Josh Hamilton in an important AB at the end of the game?
