Mudcats trail Jacksonville 5-2 in the 6th. Phipps 1 for 2. Soto blasted #16 completely out of the stadium. Okay, I made that last part up. He did hit #16 though.

Louisville tied up with Charlotte in the 6th 4 apiece. Wood has picked off two Knights so far, so he has that going for him. Alonso, Frazier and Costanzo each has doubled for the Bats.

A quick perusal shows that's his 11th HR in his last 20 games, since the break.

Of those 11, 17 have left the stadium.

Corcino has been coming back to earth a bit. Last night, Gerson got some comeuppance, as well.

Carolina is playing Jackson instead of Jacksonville. Doesn't much matter. They trail 6-2 late.

    What's gotten into Phipps?

He's going all Jose Bautista after many many years of doing pretty much nothing in the Reds system.

Maybe the quiet realization that your career is just about over provided the necessary impetus. Or maybe he just got really, really hot.

Carolina fell behind 10-2 but have scored five times in the 8th to make it a semi-ball game at 10-7. Phipps, Rodriguez, Soto, Cook each with two hits. Soto and Felix Perez have left the yard. Jose Castro now has two hits with a single here in the 8th. One out. Carlos Mendez has just reached on an infield single so the tying run is now at the plate. Quinton Berry lines out to center for the second out. Phipps up.
