FWIW, Jose Reyes never really hit for power in the minors, with just 13 HR in 1448 PA (1 per 111 PA). The bulk of his SLG came from doubles and triples.
If I understand correctly, Hamilton is built similarly -- though has yet to fill out any. He's not quite as young as Reyes was and has shown even less HR power (1 per 230), but the point remains. You can be an extremely productive player without hitting more than a handful of homers if you're hitting doubles and triples by the bucketful.
