New Reds Farmhands: Christopher Manno and Bill Rhinehart

    Manno from low A

    Rhinehart from AA

Rhinehart looks like filler but Manno looks interesting.

Manno is a potential future loogy if things go right for him. Not nearly the prospect his numbers would suggest.

Rhinehart looks like a fill-in at AA. Not too bad for one, though. Manno seems like a fringe guy with good numbers.

I'd like to see Manno go to AA.

With Perez out of the lineup I would expect Rhinehart to start here tomorrow night. He's a left handed bat with some power.

Remember when Rafael Landestoy and Wayne Krenchiki got the Reds John Franco (5.00+ ERA in Double A) and Norm Charlton?

Hopefully this works just as well.

I wonder if Rhinehart could be a future pinch hitter at The Show? I know he is old for his league, but he has power and does not strike out a lot.

Here's a story about last night's game from the Harrisburg newspaper mentioning the impact of Rhinehart getting traded.

Below is an excerpt from that article. Notice that Rhinehart has been at Harrisburg since 2008.

    RHINEHART DEAL
Rhinehart, who appeared in 307 games for the Senators over the 2008-11 seasons was traded to the Reds for Major League outfielder Jonny Gomes. The Reds also received Hagerstown lefty Chris Manno in the deal. Rhinehart is third in the Eastern League with 21 home runs and eighth with 59 RBI. Both numbers are second on the Senators behind Tyler Moore.

That jumped out at me too. The vast majority of players signed are a roll of the dice. Perhaps our folks might help Rhinehart move beyond the AA level, but that will remain to be seen.

I don't understand while the Nationals made a trade for Gomes, but considerring the Reds got some hope and potential, I'll consider it a good deal and see if they can't get a LOOGY out of this down the road.

Rhinehart is in the middle of a year where he's making a big jump--some 200 points in OPS. I wouldn't discount him entirely as a potential left handed bat off the bench. I'd like to see him in L'ville.

Re: New Reds Farmhands: Christopher Manno and Bill Rhinehart

Both these guys are good enough to push other Reds prospects and that in itself is important in a farm system - to have players that really force a guy to bring his best game every day and only a deep farm system does that .... remember all those years when players like Gookie Dawkins looked good by comparison. A deep system makes it easier to make correct judgements. So, even if neither of these guys show up in a Reds uni they may contribute in a small way...

Fyi Chris Manno went to Bakersfield--not Dayton. He hit a bitter who scored on small ball and some bad Bakersfield defense, but he struck out three hitters in an inning of work. He's averaging 14.6 strikeouts per 9 ip.
