    Re: Thursday 7.28.11 Minors

Just got home from the Dragons game.

Vidal reminds me of Brandon Larson. He made a real nice diving play on one ball, booted a ruitine grounder. I like him. Personally, I think Larson had the physical tools to make it, he just freaked out when he got his chance and mentally couldn't handle it.

Billy Hamilton is just special. He turned his wrist over and hit what would have been a stand up double for any other player, but he was rounding 3rd and was seriously thinking about going for an inside the park homerun. It was really nice to see him pull a ball hard from the left side. I've seen him 10 times this year and he has gone the other way from the left side almost exclusively. Tonight, he picked on an inside fastball and turned on it like he meant business. Nice. When he runs, it's just different than anything I've ever seen. It's just like he weighs 20 pounds when he's running.

Also, Hamilton made all the plays from SS. His arm strength is improving. He fired a laser on one ball that he needed to put some hemp on.

Juan Duran looked horrid. He was 0-4 with 4 strikeouts. His first at bat he swung at a breaking ball on an 0-1 pitch that was 3 feet outside. he followed that up on 0-2 by swinging at a breaking ball 5 feet outside that bounced. His next 3 at bats he looked as bad as any Dragon I've ever seen and I've been to over 100 games. I'm concerned.

Yorman Rodriguez was not in the lineup and not in the dugout. Did he get promoted?

Ronald Torreyes looks stronger than 140 Pounds. He's got second basemen written all over him. He hit the ball hard a couple times. I can see him being a Leo Cárdenas. Leo was 150 Pounds soaking wet, yet hit 118 homeruns in his career and was an excellent player.

Daniel Renken has a nice 2 seamer. Not sure if he's gonna be a MLB starter. he sat in the low 90's on his fastball, had a nice curve with the same delivery, but he's 22 and he's still in low class A. I gotta see him against better competition before I get excited about him. He looks like a guy that can do well in A Ball and then get lit up in AA.

Hot ass night at the park, but it was well worth checking in. This club has some future major league players. Unfortunately, Juan Duran looks like he will have to repeat low A ball. I'm not ready to give up on him, not even close, but when you see someone get outclassed & frankly...embarrassed in a low A game...it makes you wonder about his future.

Hamilton was the best player in the stadium and everybody on both teams new it. (Even though Vidal hit 2 dingers)

I really am not going to worry about Duran having a bad night considering the progress he has made thus far and his age vs the league. Thanks for the summary!

Carolina is now one game out of last place. I'm confident they'll get there, that's where they've been for the better part of two years.

Gotta love a .511 OBP from Billy over the last 10 games, bringing his July OBP to .417 and his year OBP to .320. He has recently looked "untouchable." Let's hope this is sustainable improvement and not just a lucky streak.

I've felt the same way about Duran. When he runs into a pitch it's special but the guy has a very low contact rate.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if he ends up going somewhere in a trade.
