Rival executive: Reds focused on Michael Bourn, who would answer their desire to add a lead-off hitter for 2011 and beyond
Bourn is easily the league's fastest player. But he's also 28. Like Juan Pierre, you figure he may lose a step in the next four years. Not that he would be a Red for that long.
Stubbs is fast too (I've heard people say HE'S the fastest in the NL), that doesn't make you a leadoff hitter. I'm just not that conviced he's that much of an upgrade over Lewis\Heisey. If they land him, the tells me the Reds don't see Alonso as a future LF and he's deffinately trade bait.
Sto Pro Veritate
He does, but I can't imagine that Stubbs would be included in any deal. I can't see trading Stubbs for Bourne stright up, let alone Stubbs plus. If they get Bourne I have to think either he or Stubbs (most likely Bourne) would move to left. I gotta admit....Bourne, Stubbs, and Bruce would be one helluva defensive OF.
Sto Pro Veritate
I think Bourn could be resigned after 2012. I don't how much he would cost but I don't get why people think he's gone for sure after 2012.
