The Harden deal fell through due to some uncertainty of Harden's medicals following a physical. He's still scheduled to pitch on Tuesday.

I understand the frustration but I don't want to see us get ripped off. Have to trust the sandwich makers to make the sandwiches. I wonder if Walt has the "pair" trade our MVP first baseman since we have a replacement in the farm...

I agree. I hope that Walt doesn't overpay for Bourn or someone else just to make a trade.

As for trading Votto, it is worth exploring.

As much as I like Votto and as much as he is obviously not the problem with this team, I think the Reds should certainly be open to trading him. He might serve as a centerpeice in a deal for King Felix or a pitcher of that ilk. Or even straight up for Kemp would be interesting. I think either of those deals would improve the overall club quite a bit. While Alonso is no sure thing, the Reds seem very reluctant to even look at him in LF and other teams obviously aren't falling over themselves to trade for him.

Those sound more like offseason deals, not trade-deadline ones though.

Or deals that could have been done last winter. I guess we should expect the improvements needed will be at least a 2-3 year process.

Tough sell to the fanbase to trade a guy coming off his MVP season, but I get your point.

Relying on Rolen to be the 4th hitter and counting on the young starters + a bounce back year from Edison to form a solid starting staff turned out to be a huge miscalculation.

Kemp was probably available last offseason and for a lot less than Votto.

I suppose I'm really in the minority here, but I hope the Reds do nothing at this point. Most of the deals I see proposed here will not do anything to bring us the division championship in 2011 and will hurt the team from 2012 onward. It seems to me there is far too much assurance in RZ generally that trades somehow automatically produce a given effect. There's a considerable element of uncertainty in all of them. In fact, if this team had not made one of the 50 worst trades of all time within recent history, we wouldn't be having much of the discussion we're having. We certainly wouldn't be talking about where to get an outfielder or another left handed bat.

    Finally, a voice of reason.

Take the players we have. Let them get healthy, or let them simply return to career norms, and this team runs away with the NL Central. Better yet, look at it this way: Take away about 7-8 bad innings the whole season, and this team is in first place.
Opinions are like belly buttons. Everybody has one, and they don't want someone else's shoved into their face.

Why? What good does all the excess prospects do sitting at their levels knowing they maybe there a while because they're blocked? Eventually you're going to have to give them away like what we did with Dickerson, Sutton, and others last year. I'm not saying go out there and trade Alonso for Ludwick or anything crazy but if you just sit on these prospects forever yes we should be decent/good but we will never really truely be contenders because our system just doesn't produce enough top flight studs to supplement that strategy.

For Example why not call up Toronto make them an offer of 1 solid guy and 2 or 3 second/third tier guys for Rasmus?

At this point unless there is some blockbuster trade to get Shields which I don't expect possibly the only trade left for the Reds would be dealing Ramon. You could get some pitching from the Giants for Ramon which would make sense since he won't be here next year.

That is a deal that is just screaming to be made, but Walt is either reluctant to throw in the towel or being told not to.

And Walt continues to insist that won't happen...perhaps out of respect for Ramon. Maybe they pull the trigger after the game so RH doesn't have to "walk across the field" to the SF dugout. Just dont see how keeping him around makes any sense.

I don't even care if this team trades for anyone significant right now. All I care about is Mesoraco, Alonso,Chapman, etc., being put in situations where we can see what we have going forward. Start Alonso in the outfield, bring up Mes, let Chapman close. Apparently even one of those things is too much to ask for, let alone all of them.

I actually am very happy this team is staying pat...UNLESS...a BAT comes along.

The problem with this team this year is that it has lost the close games and totally destroyed teams when it does win.

What if the Reds could pull the trigger on a deal for Shields and Upton? What would that take? Would you like to see it?
