    Stat acculmulation during losses

I've been thinking about this lately, so lets see if I can explain this easily.

Positive quantifiable stats acculmualated during losses are worthless to the team at the end of the year. If Joey Votto hits 4 home runs tonight and the Reds lose, at the end of the year, those home runs are worthless. (Granted they may have some unquantifiable effect on the team, but this is just a "fun" question). Those home runs lead to 0 wins, so should they affect his WAR?

So what if we just looked at the WAR (or other stats) of players during Reds wins, to figure out who really contributed to wins.

-This stat would really do nothing to project forward, but would be a different way to look at a player's effect on the team. By the same token I suppose you could look at what players fail at during losses to get the opposite point of view.

Chicken or Egg? Does the performance produce the victory or does the victory induce performance?

By the same token, every stat produced after a team is eliminated is meaningless.

If you want situation-based performance, try WPA. It filters out those late inning dingers that cut the deficit from 10-1 to 10-2.

Yep. Should give you exactly what you're looking for.
