    Saturday 7/30/11 Minor-League Updates

Gabriel Rosa is back in the lineup for the AZL Reds, playing 3B. He's 2-4. Francisco is 1-4. Brandon Dailey (2-5, .352) just tripled with the bases loaded and the Reds lead 7-3 in the eighth.

Juan Perez (2-4, .356) has had an awfully nice start to his career, as well. He was a 26th-round draft choice out of junior college, but is only 19. He's playing SS today. If anybody knows anything more about him, do tell.

19th-rounder Christopher Joyce (2 IP, 1 H, 4 K) remains unscored upon for the season (12.1 IP). Make that, earned runs. He's given up three unearned.

The Mudcats are up 1-0. Quintin Berry walked and later scored on a balk.

Louisville is scoreless through 2 innings. Neither team has a hit, but each team had had 3 base runners (2 walks and a HBP for Wood, 3 walks for the Bats offense).

Louisville is tied at 2. Denis Phipps had a two run double (Sappelt and Perez both singled). Travis Wood has 6 walks through 3 innings.

Volquez.... I mean Wood gets out of 5 innings with 8 walks and only 2 runs. Yikes!

Rhinehart (from the Gomes trade) continues to crush the ball. Hitting his first home run as a Mudcat, the guy is older but is having a monster season.

    Mudcats up 4-2.

After the trades clear I hope Sappelt moves up to the Reds.

Not being on the 40 man roster kills Sappelt in that situation, very similar to when he was dominating spring training. I am interested in seeing if Alonso plays any LF once the trade deadline passes.

Athletic outfield in Louisville tonight, fun to watch.

I'm pretty sure we got an empty spot on the 40 man after the Gomes trade.

And it is going to be taken by Matt Maloney here really soon. Maloney is on the 60 day DL, but he has been pitching for about two weeks now. That spot is all but his.

any thought ever been given to turning sappelt into a super utility guy? A rich man's Ryan Freel/jerry Hairston jr. How much extra value would he have if he happened to play a position like 2nd base?
