    Re: RedsZone would have exploded

As I said in the comments...

If this were true... there's no reason to think it doesn't happen (or be explored again) in the off season when the shock of changing cities and marquee players would be significantly muted.

Could also explain the Alonso call-up, when the club has made it clear it doesn't intend to start him - ever - in left field.

Wow, is all I can say.

As I said in the other thread -- I'd have kicked in Corcino and done the deal without a second thought.

    Your 2012 Reds could've been:

    Phillips
    Cozart
    Bautista
    Mesoraco
    Bruce
    Rolen
    Alonso
    Stubbs

    That's disgusting.

I think the higher ups recognize the need for some changes on this team but they just didn't/couldn't/wouldn't pull the trigger at the trade deadline. That being said, it should be an interesting off season.
How do we know he's not Mel Torme?

Amen. Bautista in GAB would have been sick.

Finally. Thanks. Hadn't seen the lineup.

Still... one start in six games doesn't sound like a starter. Doesn't even sound like a platoon. Barely sounds like a spot-starter. Hopefully he rakes in nee-Enron Field and forces Dusty to pencil him in more often.

Minute Maid. Enron bit the dust.
    2014 predictions:
99-63 WS champs (Cards take 2nd WC, Mil 3rd, Pit 4th, Chi 5th)
Bruce/Votto neck and neck MVP race (neither takes it)
    Bailey CYA winner
    Hamilton ROY & GG

    Could still be sick.

This kind of deal strikes me as something that can be hammered out in the offseason if both teams feel there is a match to be made. Both players are under control, both extremely productive for their respective teams. No need to rush to do something like this.

I would do that deal too. It gives the Reds control of the superstar at a reasonable salary for a longer period of time.

I would change the batting order to this:

    Phillips
    Bruce
    Bautista
    Alonso
    Stubbs
    Mesoraco
    Cozart
    Francisco/Frazier platoon
    Pitcher

I think Alonso is more likely to become a middle of the order hitter than is Mesoraco.

Why? Not saying you are wrong, but I'd like to hear the thinking. Bautista will be cheaper to control for a longer time, and we have an in house replacement for first base.

I love me some Joey Votto, but I love World Series appearances more.

This is true. There's no reason to believe that if there was true talks that it couldn't happen in the offseason.

I just don't have enough faith in Bautista to do that deal. No way.

Maybe the fact the Reds held onto Alonso tells you something, though.

Over a guy with a better OPS, more HRs, playing a position that's actually a team need and signed to a longer deal?

    You crazy, man.
