I love almost everything Deerhunter does and for some reason I'm always surprised by this. That album, Halcyon Digest, is my favorite of theirs and probably one of my top albums of the last five years.

They play them a lot on KEXP (Seattle). Sounds great.

I listen to KEXP a lot online

    Same here.

The story behind Helicopter is... disturbing, to say the least.

KEXP is good. KCRW also not bad.

All this talk just makes me miss WOXY though. The best of them all.

Bradford Cox is an interesting guy for sure. I'll always remember the story of him from last year doing an hour long cover of My Sharona to end an Atlas Sound show in response to a heckler.

I've been listening to Tired Pony's second album. If you're not familiar with them (or even if you are) Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) put the group together with Peter Buck, one of the guys from Belle and Sebastian (but neither Sebastian nor Belle) and others. To me this album has an early seventies folk feel to it. This is more what I wish Snow Patrol sounded like, if that makes sense. I've always loved Lightbody's voice but have been kind of iffy about SP.

This might be my favorite song right now.

I recently stumbled across a band of fellas who like to play the rock & roll. Here are the Vaccines. I think I'm a fan.

Looking forward to the new Sun Kil Moon album due Tuesday which is garnering all kinds of critical acclaim, and features this bizarrely awesome song

Bradford Cox has a fairly sizable role in The Dallas Buyers Club, BTW. Really threw me for a loop -- I knew I recognized him but never, ever would have been able to place him.

As I age, I go back through my library and eliminate some things (like most grunge...yuck) and pick up things I missed or dismissed. I am in the middle of a Prince deep dive....he is sooooooo good. So good.

De La Soul is letting people download all of their albums for free today. Their first two albums are especially good.

Little late to the party on this one, but really enjoying Parquet Courts' album "Light Up Gold." Love me some slacker rock.
