    Birthdays- 8/11

Van Snider (48) - When people talk about the worst trades in Reds history, the one that netted us Van needs to be mentioned. Van hit .200 in 35 career ABs, which is bad enough, but his OBP was actually lower than his BA, which is pretty hard to pull off. And all he cost us was a young Jeff Montgomery.

Vada Pinson - My first favorite Red growing up. The best Pinson story is that one of his managers in the minors spoke only Spanish to him thinking he was Hispanic; Vada was so soft-spoken he'd never heard him say anything.

    Others:

    Drew Storen (24)

    Colby Rasmus (25)

    Melky Cabrera (27)
"In baseball, you don't know nothin'"...Yogi Berra

Wow. I would have thought Melky was at least 30. He's been around forever.

If Vada Pinson played today, would his nickname be "Darth"?

However, he also was included in one of the best trades in Reds history, as Snider and Tim Leary netted Hal Morris from the Yankees.

Why don't we add Bobo Newsom? He pitched in the majors from 1929 thru 1953...started game 7 of the 1940 World Series just 2 days after pitching a shutout...known to be somewhat eccentric, typically referring to everyone, including himself, in the third person, as 'Bobo'.
