    Thursday 8-18-11 Minor-League Action

A couple notable appearances today for the AZL Reds. Mark Fleury is catching on rehab. And Jose Amezcua is making his 2011 debut. Just struck out the first guy he faced.

No notable hitting, however, except for Steve Selsky's fifth HR in 48 AB. Our boys' 6-game winning streak is in jeopardy, 7-2 in the eighth.

Rodriguez's three hits have him up quickly to .296. Rhinehart has a HR. Carolina leads 9-6 after seven.

Puckett and Rhinehart went back-to-back in the ninth--Rhinehart's second of the game--to put Carolina up 11-8. But this is the Mudcats we're talking about. It's now going into extras.

    Thanks, Blitz. Sometimes I wonder.

Bakersfield is up 7-1 after four behind Renken. Means and Lohman have been the unlikely home run hitters.

Soto leads off the top of the 12th with a pinch triple and Rojas brings him in with a sac fly. It's 12-11.

With a one-run lead, Donnie Joseph will give it another whirl.

Kyle Waldrop has hit a 2-run HR in the tenth to give Billings a 6-4 lead.

Edit: But Matt Leonard and James Allen couldn't hold it. That one's going to the 11th.

Man oh man. Joseph gave up a double and a passed ball put the guy at third. Then a pitch must have somehow gotten away, because the runner was out at the plate from Grandal to Joseph. But with two outs, Rhinehart made an error in RF. Then a single. Finally Joseph got the 36th out on strikes. Carolina wins 12-11.
