    17 sacks in one game?---Norm Willey, R.I.P.

Today's Herald-Dispatch has an AP article about the death of former Marshall University Norm "Wild Man" Willey, who played at MU in the late 1940s before going on to a career in the NFL with the Eagles. He was a three time All Pro selection in his 8 NFL seasons.
What caught my eye was the report of an October 26, 1952 game in which Willey allegedly sacked NY Giant QB Charley Conerly 17 times! Sacks were not an official stat then so Willey is not the official record holder, but 17 sacks in one game! How could that happen? If I had been Conerly, after about the tenth sack or so I would have told my teammates in the huddle: "Boys, we are going to run the ball; that's all the passing we will try today."
Norm Willey was age 83. R.I.P.
"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."
