Jason Castro missed the entire season with a torn meniscus. Maybe there are questions about his coming all the way back. Or maybe they see a position switch for him.

Louisville finishes, 6-5. Boxberger with the save. Two doubles for Valaika, who seems to have picked it up lately. He played SS tonight.

Love seeing that line from Lotzkar. Lots of exciting potential in the minor leagues right now.

Gotta love Billings. Scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th to win 7-6. With two outs, Waldrop tied it with his fourth single of the game (unusual for him; he usually mixes in an EBH), and Arias drove him in with a double.

Bring up Valaika and let him play some SS. The kid has shown pretty well at the bat in the majors, and if he's got a future as a utility player you want to know how well he handles short. It would be inane to keep Renteria active at this point.

    Agreed, lollipop.

On another note, Waldrop now has an 809 OPS, with a slugging ofaround 500. He needs work on taking a walk. But he's 19, with an exciting future ahead of him. He'll be a nice RF for Dayton next season.

Another Billings OF having a great year is Juan Silva, who also has hit very well this season, with an OPS over 820. He takes a walk, but needs to add more punch. As a LF, he's going to need to mash to move the prospect needle all that much. But he's definitely another interesting OFer for Dayton's fans to root for.

Bryson Smith is another OF laying waste to the Pioneer League. In an extremely small sample, Smith has shown power (3 HR in 13 games), a decent eye at the plate, and a little speed. He's older (22) and a CF.

And, to add a little spice, there's another OF who's also hitting really, really well, in Spencer Dickinson. His 852 OPS leads all Billings' OFers and he's 21, ready to move up. He's shown an outstanding eye at the plate (30 BBs in 42 games) and good speed (7/10 in the SB department).

Add these four to the likes of Sean Buckley (leading the Pioneer League in HR and among the tops in every offensive category), Juan Perez (SS with a 900+ OPS in 30 games), Nick O'Shea (833 OPS as a part-time C), Danny Vicioso (the "other" Billings C OPSing over 800), Robert Maddox (DH with 10 HR), and Ryan Wright, and you've got a really exciting team to call Fifth Third home in 2012.

I like Boxberger but he does give up more walks for a reliever than he should. He is going to make you nervous in the majors.

Is the BOS LHP Andrew Miller basically a comp to Matt Maloney?

Boxberger's advantage is that he doesn't allow any hits (5.0/9 this season in AA and AAA), so he can survive the walks. That said, he'll need to drop about a walk a game to be successful in the majors.

Miller has better stuff and a better pedigree (for whatever that's worth).

I highly doubt a position switch on him. He's very good there. No, it's the injury question. Not to mention the fact that they're pretty much looking at minor league players at EVERY position. The cupboard is THAT bare.
