Let's add Peanuts Lowrey to the Reds list. He had a career of several seasons starting in 1942 and finishing up in 1955...with the Reds in 1949 and 1950...during his years in the majors he played every defensive position except pitcher and catcher but was mainly an outfielder...he was nicknamed as a child by an uncle who, remarking on Lowrey's small size, said, "Why he's no bigger than a peanut!". While growing up in Los Angeles he worked as a child actor in the Our Gang comedies.

My siblings and I watched that show alot, in syndication obviously, when we were young. Just a classic show.

Emil Verban was an undistinguished middle infielder, mostly for the Cards and Cubs. Before the 1944 World Series, he went to the Cardinal owner and asked if he might be able to arrange a better seat for Verban's pregnant wife. The owner replied, "For all the good you've been to me, you're lucky you're not the one sitting behind a pole". Verban then went 7 for 17 in the Series, helping the Cards to a win, and afterwards he told the owner "Now you can go sit behind a pole, you so-and-so". There is an organization of Cubs fans called the Emil Verban Society; members have included Ronald Reagan and George Will.

Marv Gudat holds the record for most innings pitched without striking out a batter (26 2/3).

And Dizzy Nutter wasn't much of a player, but makes the all-name team.
