Malcolm Gladwell article on NBA lockout and owning sports franchises

Tons of good stuff in here. Terrific writer:

    http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...ts-nba-lockout

‎"Snyder Communications was a business. The Redskins are a toy. The former he ran to solely maximize profit. The latter he runs for his psychic benefit as a reward for all the years he spent being disciplined and rational. "

"of course an owner is only losing money if he values the psychic benefits of owning an NBA franchise at zero and if you value psychic benefits at zero, then you shouldn't own an NBA franchise in the first place. You should sell your "business" at what is sure to be a healthy premium to someone who actually likes basketball."
". . . acquiring J. Blanton from Oakland for, apparently, Bailey/Cueto, Votto and a lesser prospect. I do it in a second . . . The Reds' equation this year is simple: Make Matt Belisle your #3 starter . . . trade for Blanton, win 85 or more, be in the mix all summer." - Paul Daugherty, Feb. 8, 2008

Malcolm Gladwell has the gift to understand the world on a level in which few of us could ever hope and can then explain it to the rest of us.
What if this wasn't a rhetorical question?

All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I like the Grantland site a lot. One way I measure good writing is if I enjoy an article even if I don't agree with what the writer is saying. They have some good writers over there.
