After Marty I dont really care. To be honest, I think a good caller is a dying/dead art and I really dont pay much attention to the talking anymore. I kind of look at them like kickers, the only reason to talk about them now is if its bad and they are so annoying, but otherwise just in the backgorund if going well.
our writers, I could do without all of them now all together, just dont like Fay or any of those guys at all.

I like the Kelch the most. Solid professional who doesn't whine or harp on things. I think Marty is the best when he wants to be. But, honestly, how often does that occur anymore? Cowboy brings out some good technical aspects of the game and has a likable personality. I don't get them on the tube so Welsh and Thom get an incomplete from me.

I often wonder if John Fay even likes the game of baseball or the Reds. He has a position that many people on this board would die to have (and, IMO, do a much better job) and he performs in such a lackluster manner, barely putting forth any effort.

Agree with your comments regarding radio. Fay is the only print beat writer we have (plus Tom Groeschen, his back up). He does the job fairly well. Sure, I wish he'd ask some tougher questions of ownership or Management. But there's over 300 articles to write a season, and he needs quotes/sources for all of them, it's a fine line to toe. Usually he writes two stories per game day, responds to and posts dozens of Twitter tweets, and publishes a couple blog posts a day. I'd say that's quite an effort. I covered sports for 4 years at Ohio University for the newspaper, so I have knowledge of the work that goes into writing. He's not Hal McCoy, but he's level headed and gives us a good read nearly every day.

1- Kelch (good voice and does not tell horrible stories or get off track too much)

2- Grande (god I thought he was horrible until he was gone and we got this current crew)

3- Welsh (love him doing play by play instead of color commentary)

4- Jim Day (very limited sample but better than the rest)

5- Brantley (follows Marty's lead too much and gets off track)

6- Casey (laughs like a hyena way too much)

7- Thom (Thom is top of the list when doing a national game but he whines & harps too much when just doing it for a local audience. He can beat a dead horse with the best of them)

8- Marty (talks about anything but the baseball game he is covering, when he is paying attention he seems to think baseball is very easy and everyone should be perfect at it, If someone is not up to the Marty standard he complains about the player for 5 minutes. During that 5 minutes 3 other plays have happened that he did not cover)

The whole issue with Marty is when he is not interested in the game he sucks as broadcaster. In absolute terms. And he is so wrapped up in himself that he thinks the only opinion that matters is his. And that is where Marty is mistaken. Marty is talking to the people who are tuned in to the game. And they are tuned in for a reason. And that reason is they ARE INTERESTED in the game. Marty can still make some great calls when the mood strikes. It just doesn't strike nearly enough for me. The sooner he is gone, the better.
