Dayton tied it up in the bottom of the eighth and they are still tied late in that one.

Torreyes singles to lead off the 10th for his third hit of the game but is erased somehow on the bases. Lutz is unfazed and ends the proceedings with his 2nd bomb of the game.
    Dragons win 3-2.

Hayes with two scoreless innings to garner the victory.

Dayton's bullpen has had a phenomenal season. Tonight, Rogers (2.71) and Hayes (1.40) gave up one hit in five innings. Wolford (1.24) has 33.3 consecutive scoreless. Howell (2.05) has been outstanding . . .

With one out in the ninth, Rojas walked, Berry walked, and Gregorius singled in the go-ahead run for Carolina. Now, if we can get the Dayton bullpen to Montgomery, Alabama, real quick . . .

Now Campbell has delivered a 3-run HR. Maybe, just maybe, the Mudcats' pen can handle this one.

Wes Mugarian with a nice outing. Two unearned runs in five innings. Billings still leads by a count of 3-2.

Justin Freeman and Donnie Joseph tag-teamed it for Carolina, and got it done. 7-3 final. Rhinehart had two doubles.

Re: Tuesday - 8/30/2011 - Minor League Updates

I want to revisit the Quintin Berry question. He's had an outstanding season as Carolina's leadoff guy and CF. I don't know how good his defense is, but he must have some pretty good range. He has stolen 40 bases. He's also OBPing .400.

When I asked around earlier if anybody thought he might be a prospect, the consensus was to dismiss him because of his age, which is 26, the same as Drew Stubbs (a month younger). Understandable, since he's only in AA. But look at it this way: Do you think Stubbs could have put up a .400 OBP in the Carolina League this year? Maybe he could have, but there's certainly a case for saying no.

I've never seen Berry play, so I'm not stumping to put him in the organizational top 20 or maybe even the top 40. I'm just saying that there might be reason not to dismiss him so casually.

Spoke too soon. Sort of. It's now five unearned runs in six innings. Billings trails 5-3.

The future closer of the Reds? I think so.

    Who's coming with me?
