Another nice play by Mesoraco blocking the plate to keep the deficit at one.

Francisco error. LaHair doubles and Bruce to Phillips to Mesoraco erases Soto.

Francisco grounds to second. One out.
Mesoraco rolls to first. Two out.
Chris Heisey will be the pinch hitter. And Heisey rolls to short.

Not much of a rally. 4-3. Baby Bears. =(

You knew it wasn't gonna be Frazier or Valaika pinch hitting. I bet Frazier, Valaika and Janish all have to sit way down on the end of the bench together.

“With the lineup I have today,” Baker said, “I don’t want him in the seventh or eighth spot because he can’t run. They’ll walk him to get to the pitcher. (Paul) Janish hasn’t been scalding it.”
This is the kind of nonsense that Baker spews that tells me he does not have a clue. Why can't you run out of the seven or eight spot? Is there a rule in MLB that prohibits it? I don't understand. And the part where Baker says they will walk him to get to the pitcher is also confusing. Walking Stubbs would be a good thing. He could turn that walk into a double. And Willis isn't your typical pitcher. He can legitimately swing the bat.

baker is really a secret agent for the cubs or dodgers, he grew up playing for the braves and hates the reds. Janish is a fine hitter in baker's universe

Reds get an early Christmas today. They get to face Rodrigo Lopez. If the wind is not blowing in like yesterday I am putting the over/under on home runs at 3.5. Reds lefties will rake if the weather is halfway decent.

Just a thought on Trader Walt and not overpaying, which a number of folks out there applauded him for. Every GM will overpay. It is only a matter of degree. Is Walt seriously trying to say that he won't EVER overpay? Walt needs to go then. It is a silly and stubborn philosophy. Let's hypothesize that Walt and another GM agreed upon a trade that would net the Reds a player who likely would have guaranteed a playoff spot, or at least being in serious contention until the end. And Walt thinks it is a fair deal. Then right before signing off on the deal the other GM tells Walt that he needs to throw in another player. Let's just call that player Danny Dorn. Is that a deal-breaker? That would be overpaying. Would Walt call the deal off? Would he stick to his "no overpayment" philosophy? Of course he wouldn't. At least I hope he wouldn't. So all this talk about he's not going to overpay is so much nonsense. It's all relative. There are times to overpay. 2011 was one of them.
