    Devin Lohman

Devin Lohman seemed like a head scratcher of a pick in last years draft...

He did not start out his career well last season to quell those suspicions...

Going .239/.324/.322 with alot of trouble in the field.

Not a good start for a 3rd round pick who supposedly had alot of polish.

This year didn't start off much better. Awarded the 2B job over Torreyes out of spring training, he put up very poor numbers.

Going .208/.269/.256 in the first half. He was demoted to Billings and we all know how well Torreyes performed in Dayton with his call up.

Lost in all this is how well Lohman performed in the second half of the year.

    Actually outperforming Torreyes.

Over the second half of the season Lohman in about equal AB's between Billings and High A Bakersfield put up a:

    .327/.398/.510 Line in 245 AB's...

A very robust .908 OPS vs .855 for Torreyes.

Add in 14 2B's, 2 3B's, and 9 HR's in those 245 AB's with a very nice 11.8 BB% he has to be considered a emerging top prospect. His glove is still very bad, 32 Errors committed, only 2nd to Hamilton in the system, a switch to CF might be prudent.

All in all he might be one to watch in Pensacola next year.

Not to beef with you, but a few things going in Torreyes favor are...

1.) Dayton is a level higher and its a pitchers league. Torreyes was 40 points higher than anybody else at that level.

2.) Devin is 4 years older.

3.) Torreyes by all accounts plays lights out D @ 2nd.

4.) Devin has played a lot more organized ball than Torreyes.

Dayton is higher than Billings, but lower than Bakersfield. Lohman has hit quite well in Bakersfield.

I love the progress he's shown, but he's been playing against some relatively weak competition since the break. He needs to have this kind of success in a pitcher's league before he can truly re-establish his footing as a prospect.
