A couple of trades worth remembering today:

Reds:

John Franco (50) The Reds traded him to the Mets with plenty of good baseball left in him, but they got Randy Myers back, so at least it wasn't totally one-sided.

Wayne Krenchicki (57) Unremarkable 3B-2B; the best thing he ever did for the franchise was get traded for another of the Nasty Boys, Norm Charlton.

Hughie Critz- Reds 2B of the 1920s. In 1926 he hit .270 with 3 homers, and finished second in the NL MVP voting. Can anyone explain that to me? His last name was pronouced to rhyme with "lights", in case you care...

Others:

Dan Haren (30) 2011 will mark his seventh consecutive year of making at least 33 starts.

Carl Bouldin (72) Norwood, Ohio native who pitched for the Senators and, I believe, played basketball for the UC Bearcats.

Orlando Cepeda (74)

Earl Webb- Came out of the West Virginia coal mines, kicked around or a while (was briefly Reds property, though he never got into a game for them). Finally got a chance to play regularly at age 32, and it wasn't too long before he did what everyone remembers him for: 67 doubles in a season, one of the oldest records still on the books. A poor defensive player, stiil one gets the feeling that he was a guy who mostly was in the wrong place at the wrong time to establish himself.

Butts Wagner- Totally overshadowed by his brother Honus, and then saddled with the nickname "Butts"- I'm guessing that being Albert Wagner was no bed of roses.

Bob Dillinger lost the first part of his career to World War Two, and retired at age 32, but in between he was a really good player- maybe the most obscure career .300 hitter.

Looks like Danny boy make not make it this year...he has 27 as we speak.
