    Boston looking for starting pitching

    http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story/...ad-source-says

Red Sox have been trying to add a SP. Not surprising. I wonder where they are on the desperation scale. To be traded the player would have to clear waivers but would not be post season eligible. So if for example the Reds sent them Arroyo, this would go through as Bronson has cleared waivers but he could not pitch in the post season as he was not on their 40 man roster prior to 9/1.

It must be quite nice to have the resources to essentially acquire a starter for one game. Boston and Cincinnati operate in different galaxies.

Last season the Reds acquired Willie Bloomquist for a handful of games. It seems like the Red Sox are looking at people teams would be willing to give away for free. Not a bad move, but not necessarily a smart move.

Arroyo to the Sox for the low, low price of taking his contract off our hands? Now that's an interesting idea!
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

How about we give them Arroyo, and in return we give them Negron back?

I'm down and I would fathom to say that it would be a top 5 move of Jocketty or at the very worst negates his worst move as GM.

Too bad Willis is a question mark right now with his back. He'd make a great fit for a trade like that, and would net a prospect in return.
