    Birthdays- 10/22

    Reds:

    Hector Carrasco (42)

Jeff Jones (54) -He made the major league team after never playing higher than single-A, if I recall correctly. That turned out to be not such a great idea.

    Others:

Robinson Cano (29) -Recorded the last RBI at old Yankee Stadium.

Ichiro Suzuki (38) -First major leaguer to wear his first name on his uniform back since Vida Blue.

Wilbur Wood (70) -Last pitcher to start both ends of a doubleheader; also the last pitcher to both win and lose 20 in the same season. Might have had another 8-10 good years if his kneecap hadn't been shattered by a Ron LeFlore line drive.

    Harry "The Hat" Walker

    Jimmie Foxx

I saw Jones play in Waterbury (AA) in 1983, after he had been sent down. He looked terrible. K'd nearly every time up, and had a big attitude problem. Btw, Paul O'Neil had just been called up and it was his first game in AA. He had a double iirc.

I truly believe if Ichiro had played his entire career in MLB he would have broken Pete's hit record. He has been a true hit machine. He may be showing his age now after having a subpar 2011 season.

Harry played for the Reds part of the 1949 season...got his nickname from his habit during at-bats of continually adjusting his cap between pitches (no batting helmets back then, of course)...NL Batting Champ in 1947 (.363).
