My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!
Decent enough career he's had, but he met with misfortune this season owing to injuries, including a broken index finger that sidelined him a few months. He's 32, so hard to say if he'll rebound or not. Worth a flyer at the right price, though. Being a Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, native, you wonder if he'd give the Reds a hometown discount.
By the way, he's had career success pitching at GABP, but only six starts so the sample size is small. Still, his sinkerball action and ability to induce grounders would play well at GABP.
Please pass on this guy, sure he is a groundball machine, but many of those are base hits!
I'd love for the Reds to sign Cook on a minor league deal on the Dontrelle plan for 2012, but he's too iffy to tie up too many resources or be considered the solution to what ails this team's rotation. He'd be on my list of lotto tickets to buy though if that's all he'd cost.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!

A cortisone shot remedied the problem, then he broke the tip of his right ring finger when it got caught in a spring-loaded door. A realistic goal for Cook's return is May 15. (He needs to get well and pitch well on a rehab assignment for that to happen).
Seeing he pitched against Cincy once and almost died and another time Joey Votto broke his leg, you would think he would either want nothing to do with the Reds or feel that being a Red is the only safe place.

In late summer 2004, Cook was pitching the best baseball of his budding career. During a five-start stretch, he hurled a complete game and went 3-1 with a 1.96 ERA. But on Aug. 7 vs. Cincinnati at Coors Field, he was forced from the game in the third inning because of dizziness and shortness of breath. He was rushed to Rose Medical Center, where doctors told him he was lucky to be alive.
Cook underwent two surgeries, and doctors removed part of his top rib to correct the problem that was causing blood clots. He didn't return to a major-league mound for nearly a year. When he did, his faith was stronger than ever, and he'd become a better pitcher.

I have a family friend that knows him very well. He told me a couple of years ago that Aaron would love to pitch with the Reds if given the chance.

I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.
Minor league deal, Louisville rotation, see what happens.
I think we should pass on this. I saw some upside with DTrain signing on, but with Cook, I just don't see it.
Minor league deal if he'd take it, what's to lose? Anything more than that is too much risk not enough potential reward imo.
I've seen worse targets than Cook. He's not a great pitcher by any means, but he's solid. I'd rather have him in the rotation than Arroyo at this point.
Minor league deal and let Ted Power work with him.
It's a no lose situation.
Anyone else think he'd be an interesting closer?
I get an Every Day Eddie Guardado vibe from Cook as a closer.
