Unfortunately, this is nothing new in Venezuela. My brothers ex wife is from Venezuela. When she was younger, she was kidnapped and held for ransom as well. Everything turned out ok for her but it was definitely scary. I hope everything works out well for Ramos.
Reportedly 98% of Venezuelan kidnappees are returned and most of the ones that don't are from health issues that aren't related to murder by the kidnappers, but missing medications and things like that.Originally Posted by MikeThierry

Were I a professional baseball player from Venezuela, there's no way I'd go back "home" for fear of just this type of happening.

I suspect he has a lot of pride in being Venezuelan and wants to be with his family. I knew people from Bosnia and Croatia during the Yugoslavian civil war who lived and studied abroad, but would return home regularly in spite of the dangers it posed. I asked them that same question. The answer was that they felt they could help their family by being there and they didn't want the bad guys chasing them from their country. They had every intention of going home permanently once their studies were over.
Wear gaudy colors, or avoid display. Lay a million eggs or give birth to one. The fittest shall survive, yet the unfit may live. Be like your ancestors or be different. We must repeat!
He's like a hero there. He could probably run for President and win.
