2011 Bengals Discussion Part II

Do you guys think Andy Dalton will win the Rookie of the Year now that he's helped lead his team to the playoffs while Cam Newton's team is sitting at home? It shouldn't matter too much but we all know that postseason appearances sometimes make a difference with these awards. It's a good year for rookies so it could be Andy, Cam, or AJ at this point. Just curious what you guys think about that as I sit here watching Sports Rock on NBC.

Cam is probably a lock as he's had a historic rookie season without a great supporting cast. If the bengals make a deep run, maybe a narrative emerges that bumps Dalton.

Yep, that TD drive right before halftime put them in a pretty big hole. The Bengals should have had the ball back with a few minutes left in the half down 10-3. Instead they went to the locker room down 17-3. It would have been a different game otherwise. I'm just glad it wound up not mattering. It does beg the question how can it be that bad ALL against one team. That just shouldn't happen. The only one that went the Bengals direction was the late hit by Ngata. I thought that was a pretty weak call.

Yes that late hit on Ngata was questionable. I thought the hit was late but it is very hard for a huge guy like Ngata to suddenly stop his momentum when he is running full speed. But that was the only questionable call that went against the Ravens. There were several unquestionably brutal calls and poor spots that just killed the Bengals.

Both Dalton and Green played so well that they would deserve the Rookie of the Year Award in a normal year. Unfortunately they had the bad luck of sharing a rookie season with Cam Newton.

I think Green should be ROY. Making the Pro Bowl as a rookie WR is pretty outstanding.

Green and Dalton had very good rookie seasons, but Newton had a record setting rookie year. There is no way he doesn't win ROY.

2nd playoff apperance in 3 years, coming off a 4-12 season, a lockout, their QB quitting on them (enjoy watching the playoffs again, Carson), a rookie QB, reciever, and offensive coordinator, with very little offseason.

9-7 and in.

There isn't much more anyone could ask for. They've exceeded ALL expectations, and are one of 12 teams still standing.

After 16 regular season games, that is the ultimate goal.


I'm pumped! What will happen? I don't know, but in the postseason, anything can.

Yes that late hit on Ngata was questionable. I thought the hit was late but it is very hard for a huge guy like Ngata to suddenly stop his momentum when he is running full speed. The issue I had was the majority of the in play penalities went against the Bengals. The TD drive to end the first half was aided by 3 poor penality calls. In the end of the day you need to make enough plays to win and the Bengals didn't do that. But at the same time when you have two evenly matched clubs, penalities can make a huge difference. Thankfully the AJ Green mugging didn't keep the Bengals from the playoffs, if it would have the Bengals would have gotten a huge hose job.

I wasn't nearly as upset with the unnecessary roughnes call as I was about the defensive holding penalty. For a penalty that happened "before the pass was thrown," it was pretty amazing for the official to wait until two seconds after the pass was incomplete to throw a penalty flag.

No doubt, I don't even think the DB's helmet touched the receiver. He led with the shoulder and tackled with the shoulder.
