    Trade with the A's

    How bout this

Alonso, Heisey, Wood, and a prospect

    For

    Gio, and Bailey

Takes care of 2 needs in a cheap way. Then Walt can go out and get a LF.

All of the trades that bring in a starting pitcher to the reds all have one problem, who gets bumped? It won't be cueto, leake, or unfortunately Bronson, I don't see homer going anywhere and it seems as if chapman will be starter next year i don't see where gio fits. i do like the idea of getting Andrew Bailey though even though i like boxberger more.

Who cares who gets bumped. Obviously we are bringing in a SP bc our rotation was crap last year. To me Gio is better than Bailey, Volquez and proven compared to Chapman. So minimally he'll be #4 but I could him being #2. The only way I include Alonso is if Gio is included and given the A's lack of OF depth with the departure of Crisp and DeJesus I can see Sappelt, Heisey or Stubbs in play along with an arm

Boxberger needs time to make the transition (he had trouble with the jump to AA at first). And as of right now, I wouldn't assume that we'll see Chapman in the majors straightaway. His failures in the AFL show he has a long way to go.

    Cueto
    Gonzalez
    Leake
    Bailey
    Arroyo

...seems like a pretty darn good rotation to me. If someone gets hot, the Reds can make a deadline deal to clear the way for Chapman and reel in a hotshot prospect (say, Desmond Jennings?)

Still though, this trade leaves us thin in the outfield. We're selling off our best 4th outfielder and our starting LF, and Lewis's contract is up. That leaves Bruce, Stubbs, and a handful of AAA guys (Sappelt, Frazier, and Francisco if he can play a decent LF), with no depth in the minors. If we pulled this off, we'd need to find that LF fast.
