Reds Hot Stove Rumors (News Only)

Please use this thread to post Reds-related rumors only, so that people don't have to comb through pages and pages of debate to find a rumor. We can use the other thread for discussion and debate of the merits of such rumors. (Perhaps we could get a sticky on this, especially heading into the GM meetings?)

Jocketty says no deal is imminent with Phillips, per Sheldon

    http://marksheldon.mlblogs.com/2011/...hillips-talks/
UPDATE: I just got off of the phone with Jocketty and there is not a deal coming soon.

“I think it’s still a ways to go,” Jocketty said. “We’re still hopeful to get something done. We’re glad he feels that way.”
    Fay concurs
    http://cincinnati.com/blogs/reds/201...lips-jocketty/
Things are moving along, Walt Jocketty said, but don’t expect a big announcement at Redsfest or anything like that.

“I’m glad Brandon is happy about the progress,” Jocketty said. “But we’re not ready to announce a deal. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Jocketty said he hadn’t even talked to Phillips’ agent on Tuesday.

"The Giants have a ton of money tied up in the bullpen right now, writes Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, so they're trying to move Jeremy Affeldt or Ramon Ramirez. Many teams seek bullpen help, including the Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Tigers, Twins, Angels, Mariners, Mets, Brewers, Cardinals, and Reds."

    Per MLBTR.

Fay says almost no chance Cordero returns, a Phillips extension is likely-with deferred money, and Dusty better watch his back.

Not guaranteed this is Reds related, but it has potential to be:

"Three teams have made three-year offers to Mark Buehrle in the monetary range that he is seeking, a source tells Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times (via Twitter). None of the teams have put forward the no-trade clause that the veteran is seeking, but two of clubs, both from the National League, are close to including that in their offers, Cowley reports (Twitter links)."

Re: Reds Hot Stove Rumors (News Only)

Either Sheldon or Fay reported that Jocketty actually said they have made offers to obtain 6 different starting pitchers to improve the club and they're waiting to hear back on their offers. Whoever reported guessed that three of them were Jurrjens, Gio Gonzalez, and Shields.

    Here, I found it:

•Jocketty says the Reds have identified six starting pitchers as potential trade targets, according to John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer (via Twitter). While the GM didn't name anyone specifically, Fay guesses that James Shields, Gio Gonzalez, and Jair Jurrjens are on the list.
So who are the other 3? Hmmm. Interesting.

Im not sure "identified" is equal to "offered", unless you have some other sources? Not trying to derail, just want to make sure all the info posted is correct.

    Kuroda Seeking $12-$13MM Deal
By Steve Adams [December 4 at 3:00pm CST]
With his landscape reportedly "wide open," Hiroki Kuroda is seeking a $12-$13MM salary, tweets ESPN's Buster Olney, who feels that the goal is attainable because Kuroda isn't seeking a long-term deal.

Kuroda, who will be 37 on Opening Day, enjoyed arguably his best Major League season in 2011, posting career bests in ERA (3.07) and innings pitched (202). His 7.2 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 were consistent with his marks in 2010. Advanced metrics like FIP (3.78) and SIERA (3.66) will suggest that he took a step back from his 2010 numbers, and it's worth noting that he post a career-low 43.2% groundball rate and a career high 22% line drive rate.

Kuroda signed a one-year deal with a $12MM base last year for his fourth season in the Majors (all with the Dodgers). His Dodgers tenure was effectively ended when Los Angeles inked Chris Capuano to a two-year deal last week. The Rockies and Red Sox are known to have interest in Kuroda. - mlbtraderumors.com
Geez. I wish the Reds would get in on him. They pay $12M for Arroyo and then a guy like Kuroda comes available looking for about the same amount.

Jim Riggleman will accept the Reds' offer to manage their Double-A affiliate, writes Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. Earlier today, Heyman reported that Riggleman was offered the position and was likely to accept.
update? Good hire if he accepts.
