Brad Meyers, RHP, Nationals: Meyers has pitched well at every stop along the way in the Nats' system. He had a 3.18 ERA (fifth in the system) between Double-A and Triple-A while walking just one batter every nine innings.
Heard that the Yanks took Meyers.

Reds select Travis Mattair in AAA phase. He's a 3B off the Phillies AA roster.

Interesting story from a year ago: http://phuturephillies.com/2010/10/2...ravis-mattair/

Apparently he retired briefly to play basketball for Boise State

A whopping two players were taken in the AA phase. Draft is now complete. Only Reds action is taking Mattair and losing Buchholz in the AAA phase.

Re: 2011 Rule V Draft Discussion Thread

Just in case there was something to the rumor about the Reds "trading up," here's the list of guys taken ahead of the Reds' slot:

    HOU: Rhiner Cruz, RHP (NYM)
    MIN: John Doyle, RHP (CWS)
    SEA: Lucas Luetge, LHP (MIL)
    BAL: Ryan Flaherty, 2B (CHC)
    KC: Cesar Cabral, LHP (BOS)
    CHC: Lendy Castillo, RHP (PHI)
    PIT: Gustavo Nunez, SS (DET)

No Josh Hamilton on that list, but if it's possible one of those teams drafted on behalf of the Reds, I figure I'll ask if any of those names is worth getting excited about. Flaherty is the only one I've even heard of.

It will be interesting to see what the Cardinals got in Erik Komatsu. He was originally in the Brewers system, but they traded him to Washington for Jerry Hairston. Probably a guy they can keep on their roster to fill in throughout the season. Not sure he would have been a fit for us because we have about three or four other duplicates of him already.

Generally the moves are made immediately and about three of the picks were subsequently moved to another club. Interesting that the Yankees traded for one (Cabral) and then selected another player at their turn. Of course, we successfully held two Rule 5 picks the year we took Jared Burton and got Josh Hamilton thru the Cubs.

Would Buchholz have made our Redszone prospect Top 50?

Mattair has a good pedigree being a second-rounder, but he doesn't have too much in the way of results.

Looks like Buchholz didn't make our Top 40 two years ago nor our Top 50 last year.
