My best buddy was just diagnosed. 42 years old, 3 young boys, wonderful wife. Amazing best friends, and we are all just stunned right now.
Other than than the really bad news.....anyone have any insight on treatment, hope, etc?

This book gives a graphic but good description of the last years of Lou Gehrigs life. Sadly it is a not very good way to die.

I have a friend/coworker who has the early stages of ALS also.
Hang in there.

Thanks GA, I appreciate your response.

Tuesday's With Morrie is another book you may want to read. Morrie Schwartz had ALS when Mitch Albom was visiting with him every Tuesday. These interviews went right up until just a few days before his death. It shows the slow downhill progession of the disease. But Morrie gives great inspiration in his resolve towards this disease. His views of life are very uplifting and worth the read to gain this type of insight.

Stephen Hawking is the only one I know of who has lived a long time with this disease and not exactly "well"
Ugh... a truly horrible disease. My sympathies to anyone afflicted with this. A loyal employee of my family's business worked for my grandfather and later my father for 40 some years, retired, and was diagnosed and died from this awful disease not 3 years after retiring. Just awful.
Sad news. I had a friend die of this twenty years ago, and then a neighbor just recently. Neither of them lived more than a year after the diagnosis and in neither case do I recall any help other than some physical therapy to help them keep their motor functions as long as possible. Truly sorry for you, your friend and their family.
Next Reds manager, second shooter. --Confirmed on Redszone.
I can't offer any experience or insight, but I am really sorry for your friend and their family. Simply heartbreaking.
Stay strong.
