    A random (probably bad) idea

So I was thinking about this and posted the question on twitter (to which no one responded to.) But anyway, what about moving Yas to third base? I am pretty sure a position switch has been mentioned before but I just wanted to see what people think. Despite seeing him for half a season, I don't know one way or another if he could make the switch. I don't know how catching defensively ability translates to the hot corner but I think it's something to highly consider. Not everyone is sold on Todd Frazier or Juan Francisco, but I think most people like Yas, especially since he his a switch hitter. Obviously him hitting from both sides boots his value behind the plate, but if they are going to keep him they might as well try and find a place to play him.

Not full time. Personally I like Francisco at third. I think he'll develop, and plays at third. Frazier may be the loser in the prospect sweeps with Brodie Green coming quick - if Green jumps as some thinks, to AAA, and does well, Todd may be pushed out of the picture pretty quick, meaning a trade. There's a glut of MI coming, too, that are all kind of in the Frazier rating. Yas ( and what a great nickname with alliteration relative to another great)even if Mesaraco is as good as we hope, is still valuable because you really need two catchers, but I do agree he should learn a bit of 1st or 3d or the OF so he could be used in a two catcher system and still get in the lineup, plus it would add value.

If Grandal is really the highly regarded catcher that we all seem to think, a move to any other position will simply decrease his value. If he moves and becomes an say average 3B, seemingly you could deal him to a team in need of a catcher for an even better player at 3B.

Personally, I don't get the reluctance to deal him. If Mesoraco is the guy, Hanigan is still here for two more seasons. When Hanigan goes, Barnhart or maybe Fleury should be ready. The only reason I can see is that he's probably not major league ready right now. Next year at this time, he could be dealt to some team that wants to move him in as their starting catcher immediately and in theory would bring more back, but if there is a deal that gets what we need for him, I wouldn't wait. The Reds really don't have a middle of the line-up alternative to Alonso, so dealing him would create another hole, but Grandal is purely redundant and would/should be this team's number 1 trade chip.

I don't mind developing Grandal to be someone else's future stud catcher.

As long as they send us a stud SP.

As fo 3B, I have no idea. I've never seen Grandal play, but that isn't an easy transition.

I agree. Good catchers are a premium. In trade, he should garner more than the typical player.

Keep Grandal where he has the most value. If need be, you can always deal him.

3B can be handled between Frazier, Francisco, Rodriguez, and younger guys like Vidal. Don't sell David Vidal short. He could really take off in A+.

Shouldn't this be in the minor league forum?
