NY Mets eliminate their GCL Affiliate

The Mets announced yesterday that they would eliminate their Gulf Coast League club in a cost savings move. It will leave them with only three rookie level clubs, two being in the Dominican league. The remaining rookie level club will be Kingsport in the Appalachian League.

No comment that I see from the GCL, although this puts the league at 18 clubs. Last season they had three divisions with 6, 5 and 4 teams.

All the other Mets affiliates will remain the same. Not sure what their plans are with regards to U.S. drafted players and where they find them spots. They do operate a Short Season A club in Brooklyn, so maybe some of their more advanced players will go there.
