That's a very infield heavy bench, but I imagine Walt will get a LF between now and spring training. Probably another relief pitcher as well.

Re: New starting line up, rotation, and bullpen

    C - Mesoraco
    1B - Votto
    2B - Phillips
    3B - Rolen
    SS - Cozart
    LF - ?
    CF - Stubbs
    RF - Bruce

Bench: Cairo, Francisco, Heisey, Hanigan, ??

    Rotation:
    1 - Cueto
    2 - Latos
    3 - Leake
    4 - Arroyo
    5 - Bailey (Chapman - AAA)

    CL: ??
Bullpen: Marshall, Ondrusek, Bray, Masset, Arredondo, Lecure

    Closer Options:
    1. Cordero or Madsen
    2. Rich Harden - has the stuff and I think his body would hold up better if he wasn't throw so much every so often and more like 25 pitches every night

I would like to sign Keppinger for our MIF utlity guy
    2011 - .277/.300/.377, 20 2Bs, 6 HRs;
    * to me he's a perfect pitch hitter and utility guy; struck out 24x in 400 PAs in 2011; good enough defender to play 2B/SS

I would like one of three possibilities for LF:
    1. Sign Carlos Beltran and bat him #4 - highly unlikely
    2. Trade for Carlos Quentin and bat him #4 - don't know what it would cost
    3. Trade for Martin Prado and bat him #2 - don't know what it would cost

Send Janish, Sappelt, Frazier to AAA

Re: New starting line up, rotation, and bullpen

I am of the firm opinion that the Reds should give Heisey a shot as the full-time starting LF and use whatever moves they have left to fortify the bullpen.

My reasoning is simple: Take Heisey's production from 2010 (279 At Bats) and prorate it out to a full season (approx. 600 ABs) and you get 37 HRs, and 100+ RBIs.

Yes, I realize you also get a K rate that rivals Stubbs' and a low BB rate, as well. But how much would a 37 HR, 100+ RBI guy cost on the open market, or via trade? A hell of a lot more than the Reds can afford. Meanwhile, we already have that production in Heisey who will cost the Reds less than $500K.

I say give him a shot. Not only will he mature as a hitter, but he should also improve his K and BB numbers merely by playing every day. Even if those numbers don't improve, I can live with them if he maintains the HR and RBI production rate. Plus, his defense will round out an excellent outfield.

I, for one, was seriously pleased when Willingham was plucked from the market because guys like him, Ross, Ludwick, etc. just don't do anything for me when we have Heisey already on the roster.

So my lineup would look like this:

    1) Phillips
    2) Rolen
    3) Votto
    4) Heisey
    5) Bruce
    6) Stubbs
    7) Mez
    8) Cozart
    9) P

I would also consider Bruce in the 2 hole. I like lefties batting second and with Votto protecting him he could put up some monster numbers there.

    Rotation:

    Latos
    Cueto
    Leake
    Bailey
    Arroyo/Chapman

    Pen:
Cordero/Madsen (either re-sign Cordero on the cheap, or use the savings on Heisey to pay for Madsen)
    Marshall (stud)
Ondrusek (surrounded by a better pen, the pressure may come off Logan)
Bray (we could have the two best lefty relievers in the majors)
Massett (I give him one more year to prove he can regain what he once had)
    LeCure (excellent long innings guy.)
Maybe Arredondo - the jury is still out in my opinion.

I wouldn't be against this either. Dusty batted him 2nd to get him out of a funk last year and it worked. Not a large sample size but in 6 games his OPS was a bit over 1.000, and that was coming off a slump.

I have very low confidence in bruces and stubbs hitting abilities. They just don't seem to have good plate discipline.
    1. Cozart
    2. Philips
    3. Votto
    4. Heisey
    5. Rolen
    6. Hanigan/Mes
    7. Bruce
    8. Stubbs

    Cueto, leake, latos, arroyo, bailey/chapman

Id personally like to see chapman in closer role. Extends career, and saves those 1 run games we lost last year!

With Heisey as our clean up hitter, I'm certain we will make the playoffs.
