    Closer Ideas

Ok so I really don't see andrew bailey coming to cinci and having the success that he has had in Oakland in Cinci due to the ballpark, so here arre my ideas
    1. Let Masset, Bray, Homer, Ondruseck, Arredondo, and possibly Marshall if this trade goes through, battle it out for the closing job.
    2. Trade for Bobby Parnell of the Mets or Daniel Bard in Boston
    3. Keep Wood, let Chapman close
    4. Sign someone like David Aardsma or Joel Zumaya to a incentive contract
    5. Spend some money and get Madson
    6. Mike Gonzalez
    7. See if the Yankees would trade Soriano
    8. Give it to Coco again(last Resort)

If the market continues to thin out like it has, I think it will be Coco. And I'd be ok with that.

Depends on the cost for CoCo. Its unsettling eking out games every time he comes in.

I'd roll with Chapman if I were the Reds.

I agree that Coco can seem like a ticking time bomb everytime he goes out there but the fact remains that he has had one of the highest saves % over the last couple of seasons.

I don't get the Coco hate. He was shakey in 2010, but he was excellent in 2011. His numbers were almost identical to Marshall's last year.

Where is Pat Neshek? He was at an all star level a few years ago and closed in the minors.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

His peripherals don't look nearly as good. Cordero's K rates are going down pretty rapidly, as is his velocity. I'd expect a regression next year, and if he's wanting at least a 2 year $16 million contract, Marshall is a much cheaper, better solution while we figure out the closer situation in 2013, whether it's keeping Marshall or moving on. Is that worth giving up on Travis Wood for? I don't think so, but that's just my take. I think Wood didn't do poorly enough to play himself out of a job, unlike Volquez. Half a season of an ERA around 5.00 in GABP and decent stats in AAA in his first full workload... there may not be a place for him in the rotation, but we're selling him really, really low.

So the bullpen now looks like:

    Fisher/Smith/Horst (winner of spring training)
    Lecure (longman, emergency starter)
    Bray (lefty specialist)
    Ondrusek (middle relief horse)
Arredondo (middle reliever, potential for set-up or closing)
    Masset (set-up)
    Marshall (closer)

Not too shabby, but we're gonna face some problems in the future after Boxberger got traded and Joseph had a terrible season. There's not a whole lot in the system that can help out in the near future, especially if one of these guys goes down, and Marshall is gone after this season unless we pony up to keep him.
