I'd rather listen to Kelch read the phone book than suffer through Thom Brennaman's attempt to make every instance on the field the most important event since the discovery of manned space flight. -westofyou

Someone needs to finance Joe's dream of starting Baseball Magazine up again. Fascinating stuff.

    Thanks for sharing that article.

Joe Posnanski, once again, reiterates why he is far and away the best baseball writer in America. Excellent piece.

On a related note, there seems to be pieces of sabermetrics found throughout baseball history it just really never had a name or some of the points brought up may have been part of a legitimate baseball discussion without knowing that they were talking about sabermetrics to begin with. Heck, Earl Weaver at some points in his managerial career tried to put high OBP guys at the top of his lineup. That was way before the concept of having high OBP guys in the lineup was fashionable.

Joe Poz might turn into a writer someday.....
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S.
