    Re: Javier Vazquez mulling comeback

One of the most underrated pitchers of this generation. Top 5 pitchers in fWAR in the 00's:

    1. Randy Johnson, 55.7
    2. Roy Halladay, 53.8
    3. Javier Vazquez, 49.2
    4. Pedro Martinez, 47.8
    5. Curt Schilling, 45.6

And since that obviously is a "biased" selection of years around his career, if you look at since 1990, he's 15th. Interestingly, he's next to a guy who could be thought of as the Javier Vazquez of the 1990's, Kevin Appier.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

We were supposed to land him in the Great Contraction Draft in the early 2000s. Whatever happened to that?
All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I was always waiting for his arm to blow up but it never did. He had like 550 innings from years 21-24. The Expos rode him hard as a youngster.

Vasquez is reportedly sitting in the low 90s and touching 94 in recent days. So perhaps the guy still has something in the tank.
