    Walt obviously has concluded that the pitching staff is the team's main concern and probably determined that an additional guy on the coaching staff devoted to pitching made sense and would help.

    I wouldn't read too much more into it.
    It's somewhat odd since it has never been done before, so there really is nothing obvious about it. Just my opinion.

    Let's just remember how Walt came to being the GM. He was an "advisor" long enough to the lay of the land and then the ax fell on Krivsky.
    Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
