I think both teams could win in this deal. Depends of course on all of the other parts, but I like it for both sides currently.
Totally agree dougdirt. The Yankees have a pretty nasty rotation now: CC, Nova, Pineda.... I'll go to war with that.
Didn't someone have the inside scoop on this about a week ago or so? Interesting deal, hopefully Montero isn't an all hype Yankees prospect.

I think Mariners got hosed in this deal. 22 years old, 3.47 ERA 1 year in the bigs, and they got 1 guy for him. Yankees win this deal BIG. This would be like us only giving up 1 guy for Latos.
The calculus kind of looks like an A and a B prospect for an A and B prospect...
Plus, the trade didn't happen within a vacuum. If different teams had made the same trade, it may have changed it some. Right now, I think the Yankees got the better of the deal, but it isn't by a lot and I still think it helps both teams.
Wow. Montero will help the Ms. With him gone the Yankees need a DH. Hideki back to the Bronx? How about Johnny Damon? Or maybe they go get Vlad?
Of course this is the Yankees we're talikng about. They can afford anyone they want. Maybe Prince Fielder is in their sites.

Having better players makes "the right time" or "the big hit" happen a lot more often. PLUS PLUS

http://www.redszone.com/forums/showt...da#post2506824Yonder isn't enough to get Pineda....
http://www.redszone.com/forums/showt...da#post2499207Pineda is not a creation of Safeco. He'd tear up GABP too especially since he'd get to face pitchers. There is room for growth with his secondary offerings too.
http://www.redszone.com/forums/showt...da#post2425346There is really no reason to think Pineda is a 'one year wonder'.
So given that, the Mariners got fleeced here. I disagree with the idea that Montero and Pineda are both A-prospects. Pineda has at least done it at the Major League level. Montero is a guy who hasn't been consistent and there's questions whether his bat, which was partially lauded for being at a premium position, will excel at a corner spot.
This certainly isn't a Latos-like haul.
