    Birthdays: 1/15

    Reds:

Delino DeShields (43) -The Dodgers traded away a young Pedro Martinez to get him; it's considered one of the worst trades in the Dodgers' long history.

Jerry Narron (56) -Like DeShields, he never actually played for the Reds. And like DeShields, he has a bunch of kids, each of whose names starts with the same letter (Delino's kids are all "D"s and Jerry's are all "C"s). And like DeShields, one of Narron's kids is an elite level baseball player.

    Others:

Matt Holliday (32) -Probably should have won the 2007 NL MVP award;he lost in a squeaker to Jimmy Rollins. I know he's a Cardinal, and therefore despicable, but you have to admire a guy who only misses nine days after an appendectomy.

Bobby Grich (63) -No weaknesses as a player. First 2B to lead the AL in homers since Nap Lajoie did it in 1901. Currently works in the Angels front office.

Mike Marshall (69) -Known for being a central figure in Ball Four, for the amazing number of games he appeared in in his Dodger seasons, and for his unconventional views on pitching mechanics. His theories probably deserve wider recognition, but he tends to hurt his cause by his lack of diplomacy; Marshall does not suffer fools gladly to say the least.

Ray Chapman -Star Cleveland shortstop who was, as you all probably know, killed by a pitched ball in 1920. A plaque honoring him was eventually taken down and put into storage at old Municipal Stadium for unknown reasons; it was rediscovered and restored in 2007 and is now displayed outside the Jake.

Adding Ray King (39) - In 2003 the fall of Ray King meant the fall of Austin Kearns.

Perhaps the best player not currrently in the HOF (eligibility and PED questions aside).
