    MLBTradeRumors.com :

The Athletics acquired outfielder Seth Smith from the Rockies for righty Guillermo Moscoso and lefty Josh Outman, according to the Rockies' Twitter feed. *The A's are a somewhat surprising match for Smith, but they did need corner outfield help after losing Josh Willingham and David DeJesus to free agency. *Josh Reddick and Coco Crisp round out Oakland's outfield.

Crap! Doesn't seem it took too much to land Smith. I wonder what the Reds had to offer that was comparable.

edit: never mind, that Moscoso put up pretty solid numbers in '11. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pl...oscogu01.shtml

Absolute steal. Two guys that don't miss bats. I'm disappointed.

The main reason the Rockies were looking to deal Smith was to free up a little bit of money to get pitching help. Here, they got two actual major-league pitchers (not real good ones, but nonetheless) and they ended up saving money anyway. If that's exactly what they were looking for, I'm not sure we had the right matchup.

    Guillermo Moscoso in Coors? SCARY.

Dude is an elite fly ball pitcher. 26.8% GB rate, 17.7% LD rate, 55.5% FB rate and 12.4% IFFB rate. Doesn't miss bats. So tons and tons of fly balls and a whole lot of contact in Coors..... good luck man.

I like that expression. Question: isn't it sort of an oxymoron? Like "jumbo shrimp" or "democratic government"?

Not really. Being a fly ball pitcher could be a guy who gets a 45/55 split. This guy is a 27/73 split.

Can we swing something with the A's? Do they need catching? Maybe Hannigan and a prospect for Smith. Just a thought.

I think it's quite unlikely the A's would trade Smith after just acquiring him, especially when they need corner outfield hope.

It's interesting that it almost always ends up being less than expected. Time and time again.
