Rockies offer Moyer minor league contract

MLBTraderumors, citing the Denver Post, reports that the Rockies are waiting to hear back from Jamie Moyer about accepting a minor league contract. Moyer is currently 49. The piece notes that 14 of the players on the 40 man roster were not born when Moyer debuted in 1986.

I hope to see Moyer continue to pitch in the majors.

I would not mind the Reds also offering Jamie a minor league deal.

Reds are thinking about bringing back Tom Browning to see if he has anything left.

I'd love to see him get to 300 wins, no matter how long it takes, just to see the debate about that number and the HOF.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!

He has 33 wins to go to get to 300. I think that debate will probably have to wait...
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

    Here's a CNN story on Moyer's signing

    http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/19...ck/?hpt=hp_bn1

Moyer & Tommy John's careers overlapped, but they only pitched in the same league in John's final year. Alas, Moyer never pitched against the Yankees that season, nor did John pitch against the Rangers.

Here's another story on Jamie Moyer's comeback, from CNN:

Odd stat, Moyer is the only pitcher to throw a shutout in four different decades. Wow.

I hadn't read the entire piece when I posted this. Lots of great back story here. I'm rooting for the guy!

I hope he makes it back. Even if its just for one game. He's last player left in MLB that is older than me. I have to root for that.

Yeah, I've said this before. Dennis Eckersley announced his retirement on my 44th birthday - he was the last one older than me. I actually noticed just now that he was born on what is now my wedding anniversary. He's a couple of months older than me.

The thing about it for me is that I will be 49 on April 13th. To have someone still playing MLB at that age is pretty remarkable.

One day I'm on here and I'm younger than all MLB players, the next thing I know I'm 22 and the number of players younger than me is growing and growing.

The first player I remember that was younger than me was Jose Oquendo, the now Cards third base coach. That's been a long time ago now.

The first Red who was younger than me was Willie Greene.

The last Red who was older than me was Arthur Rhodes.

Last season was the first in my lifetime in which every player on the club was younger than me.
Eric Stratton, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet ya.
