So far I've gotten Moyer pitching to Tony Perez. And in 1965, Tony Perez faced a 44 year old Warren Spahn (pitching for the Mets). I tried to find a game where Spahn would have faced Ott, but it looks like Ott didn't play much late in his career. Not sure who else was old when Spahn was young.

Also have to think Moyer will face Bryce Harper at some point.
I think I saw somewhere that he is 5 degrees of separation from Babe Ruth.

Edit: Post 24 of this thread. thanks RichRed

I saw that too. But how about batters/pitchers that actually faced one another?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. -- Terrance Mann (Field of Dreams)

Yeah, but how many times through the years has that been said of Moyer? I'm not writing him off until he SAYS he's done.

True. You never know. But what I was seeing was a pitcher that can't get his fastball to 80 and he's not lasting but about 4 innings an outing. I hope he can stay around a while longer. He's the last player that is older than me. I kinda like that.

    Here's what I got:

Moyer to Perez to Spahn to Hank Greenberg to Lefty Grove to Babe Ruth.

    I got this via retrosheet.

Live press conference on MLB.com right now. (just ended)

Always seemed like a class act to me. I'd actually forgotten that he won 20 twice. I don't think he's got a shot at the hall but that was one heck of a career. Sad to see him finally go. (he certainly sounded like he was done).

The Reds bookend his career. His first and last start were against the Reds.

Jamie Moyer was released at his own request from Norfolk, the Orioles AAA team. He had an out clause after three starts. The Orioles wanted to keep him but he refused.

It really bothers me that he didn't have the cahunas to pitch 'til 50 years old.

    JUST KIDDING.

    Impressive career.
