I can't get too excited --- he hits righties better than lefties but he hits none of them at a very good rate.

    I hope he comes cheap.

He was hitting well as recently as two years ago, before being traded to the cavernous Petco Park.

Coming to GABP and playing for a contender (hopefully) should rejuvenate him.

I personally still think a trade is coming but that's just my gut.

1-yr 2.5M for Ludwick with a mutual option for a 2nd year. I'm guessing he'll get 450-500 at bats. I'm okay with the signing, given the options available and lack thereof on the trade front Ludwick is a good fit for the Reds.

I see one good year (2008) + 2 OK years (2007 & 2009) but it looks like he comes reasonably cheap --- if 2.5 million is cheap....

Hopefully he's rejuvenated, but don't count on it. Heisey should still be regarded as the starter and get the majority of plate appearances. Ludwick's OPS last season won't cut it this year.

It's only been a year and a half since Ludwick has been good, before he was traded .827 OPS for STL.

His 4 year OPS average in STL - 857

That 4 year avg is better than anyone in our OF's best year.

I want to get excited but I also want to protect my heart from being abused and broken so for now I will say this:

Ludwick? Yeesh. He is an Anglo-Saxon Wily Taveras!

As I see it, the entire team will have 3 left handed hitters: Bruce, Joey, and Francisco. Once again we will get eaten alive by righthanded pitching.

Re: Source: Ryan Ludwick to Reds

Ludwick was having a damn good year in July 2010 when he was traded to Death Valley for hitters.

    .280+ average, .480+ slugging and .820+ OPS

He's only 33, and GABP is a better hitters park then St. Louis. I'm not saying he'll put up those number again. But, he's got to be as motivated as ever. This is his one chance to get a big contract. He signed for one year with a mutual option with the idea of putting up a big season in GABP and then cashing in. He doesn't even need to have a season like 08, as that is probably an outlier, but a whole season like he was having with St. Louis in 2010 would be huge for this team.
