Good looks like everyone is in the fold, offseason complete!

He's under team control for more than 2 years. This signing is about salary certainty, not retention.

Almost. Wouldn't surprise me if there were two or three more 2nd-tier vet FAs with invites to camp. Nothing too major.

Unfortunately Huntington & Charleston were the start of the caravan yesterday.

oh that is a very good contract for the Reds, considering his upside.

Agreed. I believe there is a strong chance that Arredondo outperforms Masset over the next two years for approximately 1/3 of the cost.

Oh yeah. I was disappointed in Arredondo over the first two-thirds or so of last year, but his final months showed that the trouble was mostly rust and readiness. He looked sharp late in the season. He could easily complement Marshall as an 8th-inning guy.

And if he thrives, He'll be the cheapest closer in baseball in 2013.

Re: Reds Sign Arredondo to Two-Year Deal

Arredondo is very inconsistent, even flat-out wild at times. But he was knocking the rust off last year after almost two full years off and was still at least solid. Have to think he'll be even better this season. I also like the fact that the young man knows how to miss bats.

Another solid offseason move. Not that it really matters since he was under team control anyway for the next 3 years, but one less thing to worry about next offseason (going to arbitration with Arredondo). And if he does get hurt again, not a huge risk taken by the Reds. They'd be out a million bucks. Not ideal, but nothing that would greatly affect the team.
